BEE CITY!

Well it has finally happend! I am a proud owner of more than 20,000 bees...I think I counted twice and man its tough...ha ha . I got two 3 frame nucs and installed them Saturday evening. Today I went out and opened them for the first time (gave them 3 days to get settled down). I do see chalkbrood and Spotty brood patterns but I am assuming the spotty brood pattern is from the chalkbrood and not AFB (American Fowl brood). I have had lots of drift so I am going to start working the hives entrances into a different direction a little bit at a time.

Here is a video documenting my efforts:

Hope you enjoyed it. The fiddle tunes in this video are from my new CD if anyone is interested. I am selling them $12 each and charge $3 shipping.

New CD!

Thats right! I decided that I should make a CD to sell at the farmers' Markets since I go there and play my fiddle and everyone stands around and listens...and sometimes throws money in the donation jar. This way I could have an additional method of making some money. I think I am going to sell them for $12 each and if I have to ship them somewhere it is about a $3 shipping charge.

Below are a few pictures. No I am not mad in the picture of a picture but I was going for the "Old-Time" look and in old pictures no one ever smiles. I have a picture where I am smiling inside the cover.

This CD is Recorded, Mixed, and Produced by myself. This is so neat. I have this drive called a LightScribe drive and I can actually print to the CD using a laser. It looks very professional.

In all 12 of the tunes on this CD, I play all the instruments in each tune. The CD has that "Old-Time" feel to it.

Below is a list of the tunes I have on this CD:
1. Molly Put the Kettle on
2. Angeline the Baker
3. Amazing Grace
4. Arkansas Two-Step
5. Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine
6. Dance Around Molly
7. Come Thou Fount
8. Nail that Catfish to the Tree
9. Horse and Buggy-O
10. Louisville Breakdown
11. United States March
12. Shamus O'Brian

In some of these tunes I play harmony fiddle. I am also playing the clawhammer style banjo in a couple tunes. I really am happy with how it turned out and am excited to release it.

Anyone interested in a CD can send an email to me at xcalibursword@gmail.com . I accept pay pal over the Internet or check or money order.

If its people who are close to me that I know...I wont charge shipping I'll just take it to them but for those who live to far away, a $3 shipping charge will apply (for 1 to 3 CD's shipped at a time).

Wow I am falling behind!

Wow! It’s been a while since I last posted. I have been cutting back big time on my trips to town so the posts are becoming farther and few between. We have been working our tails off…and enjoying…most of every minute.

Yesterday (May 8th) we sold our produce for the first time at the market….I forgot to take a picture! We had a good time. I had picked 8 containers of Spinach and 6 containers of lettuce and sold everything but 3 containers of lettuce…we ended up giving them away. We sold 3 candles Brandy made and a few cards she had made…not sure how many. All in all we made a little over $50, which is great considering we didn’t have much for sale. Now I just hope all my spinach and lettuce grow back in time for next week…I may have to pick it every other week.

I have got my tomatoes and bell peppers planted. Although, unless God quickens those little plants, they may not make it past next week. I have learned one thing I plan to do different next year, plant in a cold frame. I can get them started but get them all out in a cold frame when its half way warm out. They needed lots more light and more fertilizer. Below is a picture of one of my Cold frames. I only had enough glass and wood for one.

As a result of planting the peppers and tomatoes I had to get the ground prepped and removed of rocks. This picture below shows the row of rocks that I raked off the top layer of the garden. The mound is about 12 to 14 inches high and runs the length of the garden on both sides. I am not looking forward to picking all of those up.

Our baby rabbits are at 4 weeks now and ready to be sold next week at the farmers’ market. That is, we’ll sell ‘em if Brandy lets go of them…ha ha.

I poured the first section of rock wall for my retaining wall (its a different method than I am used to using, this is called slip forming). I learned one thing. Add more rocks AS YOU GO not all at once and expect the concrete to sift between the rocks! So as I was working on it I noticed that it wasn’t getting concrete at the bottom of the form so I tried to get it to go down but it didn’t work. I did however catch it in time to do it the right way on the other side of the form but I am going to have to touch up the other.

I have been doing a lot of clearing. We cleared an area to plant our sorghum.

We are planning on building a small place to live in and sell our double wide which will free up the planting area under the house and give us a boost in money to pay off more debt. The new place is nothing fancy just a 12x24 with a 6 foot front porch that faces the woods and is shaded by the trees on all sides so we don’t need air conditioning. As it sets right now the house we currently live in will get to about 120 or 130 degrees this summer because of it being right in the open and we are not about to pay the $100+ electric bill for something we didn’t really need anyway, if the house was placed in the right place you wouldn’t need to waste money on air conditioning. A 95 degree day in the shade feels like 80 I can deal with that!

Below is a skink that I found while raking. In one of the pictures it was trying to bite me…it doesn’t hurt so when I set it down to go free it was still attached.

I am now officially in a band for the first time in my life. I have always wanted to be in a band but I didn’t think I was good enough. Some ladies sought me out to play in the band “Stringfield”. You could have knocked me over with a feather. They seen me on YouTube and this blog and they live right here in my area. They play Old-Time mostly which is good because that’s what I play. There are two hammer dulcimers, a base player, a guitar player and me (guitar and fiddle). We will be playing at the Founders Day festival in Hollister Missouri this Saturday from 10am to 2pm and then at Branson the next weekend for the Plumb Nellie Days but I don’t remember the time yet.

Thanks for checking my site out hope you enjoyed.
